  • To the editor:

I have finally found something to admire about President Trump: his almost quixotic tenacity. Unfortunately, he lacks the moral fiber of Miguel de Cervantes’ hero even with his Sancho Panza stand-in, Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin. (“Trump wants to lower business rate to 15% in 'biggest tax cut' in U.S. history, Mnuchin says,” April 26)

At a White House briefing unveiling the president’s tax plan, Mnuchin said that Trump has no intention of releasing his tax returns. Trump characterized his proposal as “great plan”—well, great for Trump most assuredly, which [sic] its 15% corporate tax rate.

Next, Trump will probably march his top lieutenants down to Capitol Hill to try to bully members of Congress. That worked so well with healthcare reform.

“No Trump tax returns, no Trump tax reform” should be our collective refrain as concerned citizens.

Note from KBJ: We elected Donald Trump without seeing his tax returns, Jan. We don't care about his tax returns. Try to think about other things.

  • Nearly every day, there is confirmation of Keith's Law, which says that authoritativeness is inversely proportional to partisanship. This essay is long, but worth your time. Key paragraph:

Several long-term developments have weakened the press institutionally. The prevalence of adversarial reporting (especially in the form of crude gotcha journalism as opposed to substantive investigation) diminished reporters in the public eye. To many citizens, regardless of ideology, the typical Washington journalist now seemed preening, self-important, and unremittingly negative. The explosion of armchair television punditry, at the expense of reporting, had a similar effect. (Boldface added.)

Keep it up, journalists, and you'll have no audience except your fellow leftists.
