  • 20040222, Volta ao Algarve, Portugal (Lance in picture)The weather in North Texas is too perfect to put into words, so I won't try. If this is global warming, then let there be global warming! (Speaking of which, has any climate alarmist even addressed the question of the benefits of global warming? All we hear about are costs. There are never just costs. There are always benefits as well, and sometimes the benefits outweigh the costs. I'm pretty sure there is more suffering in the world due to cold than there is due to heat, so global warming will make the world a better place, on balance.)

I rode my bike 34.5 miles today and had a wonderful time. Today's ride gives me 859.5 miles for the year, which puts me on track to achieve my goal of 5,350.8. I pedaled 379.1 miles in February (in 11 rides). I expect over 500 miles in March, which has not only more days than February but also an 11-day spring break. Now you know why I chose academia rather than law practice.

Living well is the best revenge.

  • I’ve been chuckling at the major screwup Sunday night at the Oscars, the world’s most self-aggrandizing show of puffery. (Feb. 27, 6A, “Moonlight shines brightest”)

I’m sure the overinflated egos of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences’ finest will figure out a way to blame their screwup on President Donald Trump.

Best outcome I could have hoped for.

  • My beloved Arizona Wildcats (26-4) fell from fourth to seventh in the ranking with a blowout loss to UCLA on Saturday. The Bruins moved up to third. The Pac-12 has three teams (the third being the Oregon Ducks) in the top seven. Three of the four teams to beat the Wildcats—Gonzaga, Oregon, and UCLA—are now ahead of them in the ranking. The other Wildcat loss was to 13th-ranked Butler.

  • Some of you will recall that I'm reading the 10-volume Encyclopedia of Philosophy (second edition) at the rate of two pages per day. I've been at it since 24 April 2007. Today I finished the letter "Y." Among the entries I've read are:

    Yamaga Sokō
    Yamazaki Ansai
    Yang Xiong
    Yang Zhu

I read the two pages first thing in the morning. It takes about 15 minutes.

  • This individual is a loyal Bushie. He still hates Donald Trump for defeating Jeb Bush and for not paying homage to George W. Bush. He's also too pure, morally, to support someone who isn't perfectly conservative by his exalted standards. The whole thing is amusing.
