  • Here is an interesting perspective on today's Cadel Evans Great Ocean Road Race (in Australia). The images are from participants' bikes.

Addendum: Here is the final kilometer. File it under "Never give up."

  • To the editor:

Words matter. Why does The Times use the word “conservatism” to describe the ideology of Donald Trump’s presidency?

“Reactionary” or even “radical” are better descriptions.

While Trump continues to malign the press, why do you use a benign word that dignifies his positions? Words do matter.

    Lucille Gechtman, Sherman Oaks

Note from KBJ: We didn't elect Donald Trump because he's conservative. We elected him because we agree with him on the important things, such as health care, immigration, and trade policy. We also liked his disdain for political correctness.

  • Harlem GlobetrottersKatherine and I took nine-year-old Luki to Dallas this afternoon to see the Harlem Globetrotters (in American Airlines Center, where the Dallas Mavericks and Dallas Stars play). I've never seen the Globetrotters in person, though I've seen them on television many times and known about them since I was a kid. The Globetrotters are part basketball team, part high-wire act, part comedy troupe, part gymnastics team, and part dance squad. I laughed uproariously many times and found myself applauding the team's antics, some of which involved interaction with the audience or the team's mascot, Globie. The team had an off night as far as long-range shots are concerned, but the talent of the players shone through in other ways, such as acrobatic dunks, no-look passes, slick ball-handling, and the famous three-man weave. Oops! There was a woman on the team, so perhaps I should say "three-person weave." A good time was had by all.
