Those of you who read my blog on a regular basis know that I was not a supporter of Donald Trump from the beginning. Of the 17 original Republican candidates, I liked Ted Cruz the most and Ben Carson second-most. What changed my mind more than anything was Sarah Palin's endorsement of Trump in January 2016. See here. I love Sarah Palin. When she came out for Trump, it stopped me in my tracks. I started listening carefully to Trump and watching people's reactions to him on the campaign trail. I quickly realized that he was more than a reality-television star. He was talking about the things I care about: borders, culture, tradition, and, most importantly, the devastating effects of free trade on our country and its working people. At the same time, I noticed how sleazy and slimy Ted Cruz was. Cruz's father scared the dickens out of me with his speaking-in-tongues religion. Was I ever in doubt about Trump's electoral chances? Not really. After the Brexit vote in mid-2016, it was clear to me that something profound was going on in the world. The people were rebelling against the elites. Cosmopolitanism was giving way to nationalism. This boded well for Trump, and now we know that it made a profound difference. I've been around long enough to know when politics as usual has ended and something momentous and transformative has begun. The last time we had a candidate like Trump was in 1828, when Andrew Jackson was swept into office. Historians call that the Jacksonian Moment. We are now in the Trumpian Moment. I can't wait to see Barack Obama erased from history. His eight years in office were an aberration brought about by white guilt. Accusations of racism against whites had grown so frequent and so vociferous that many whites decided to "let the black man have a chance," manifestly unqualified though he was. They thought this would absolve them of guilt. What they should have done is deny guilt. Slavery is over. The race hustlers would have us believe otherwise, but that's because they benefit from black victimhood and white guilt.
Thank you, Sarah Palin, for opening my eyes.

Here is President Donald J. Trump's First Inaugural Address. I can't help but think of the Never Trumpers, who, by opposing Trump, not only made fools of themselves, but screwed themselves. Trump owes them nothing and they will get nothing from him. Do you hear that, George Will, Jonah Goldberg, William Kristol, Stephen Hayes, et al.? You have missed out on the most transformative moment in American history. By comparison, Ronald Reagan will look like a piker.

This is one of the happiest days of my life. For eight years, I and millions of other Americans suffered through a thuggish and incompetent presidency, during which time (1) America was weakened abroad, (2) Americans were battered and demoralized at home, and (3) various perverts, creeps, thugs, and traitors were celebrated. Our long national nightmare is over! Thank God.

To the Editor:
Re “For Third Year, the Earth in 2016 Set Heat Record” (front page, Jan. 19):
What a starkly ominous coincidence that just when scientists announce that 2016 set the highest temperature in recorded history, Scott Pruitt and Rick Perry, Donald Trump’s nominees for heads of the Environmental Protection Agency and the Energy Department, are undergoing their confirmation hearings.
While they mouth vacuous amendments to their records as extreme climate change denialists, no one should take any comfort in such transparent attempts to smooth their confirmation processes.
Just when the need for stronger actions to mitigate the dangers of global warming are becoming more urgent, we face the prospect of an administration that at best will do nothing to worsen the looming disaster.
