  • To the Editor:

I could not even finish reading “Hacking the Democrats” (front page, Dec. 14) without stopping to contact members of Congress to demand any legal means possible to delay those who “won” from taking office before more is known about an election that was clearly influenced by Russian hacking.

This was a direct attack on United States elections and our democracy itself. Where is the outrage? President Obama and four senators requesting an investigation is not enough!

A candidate who publicly invited the Russians to hack into his opponent’s emails has been elected to the highest position in the nation. Our president-elect, along with members of his campaign team and proposed cabinet, have business relationships with Russia.

Is there not enough evidence for something more to be done? Is there nothing that will prompt our current elected officials, members of the Electoral College and the media to demand more immediate action before these newly elected officials take office?

This is a crisis and way beyond partisan politics. It threatens our national security, and history will not be kind to those who did nothing. How many times have we wrung our hands over our collective inaction when we all knew something more should have been done? Don’t make this another one!

To The Times, please keep up your reporting. To readers, write to your elected officials. Demand action now.

Note from KBJ: Donald Trump did not "invite" Russians to hack Crooked Hillary's "emails." Do you know what a joke is, Marie Lellis? To quote Rush Limbaugh, you're a special kind of stupid.

  • The Skill (1980). Sherbet (a.k.a. The Sherbs or Sherbs) was a successful Australian band in the 1970s and 1980s. I have two of the band's albums and love them to death.

  • To the Editor:

Re “Buck Up, Democrats, and Fight Like Republicans” (Op-Ed, Dec. 14):

Dahlia Lithwick and David S. Cohen exhort Democrats to apply tendentious tactics they claim only Republicans use. Instead, Democrats should accept that they lost this election because they nominated a weak candidate who smugly dismissed many Americans as “deplorables.”

It’s hypocritical for Democrats to argue now that the popular vote should be decisive. Before the election, Democrats giddily proclaimed that Hillary Clinton’s victory was assured—by her Electoral College strategy.

Nor is the argument necessarily accurate. If the election had been decided on the popular vote, the candidates would have campaigned accordingly. Donald Trump, who proved to be a better politician than the professionals he beat in the primaries, would have probably won.

Democrats should try “fighting tooth and nail” to connect with workers, not policy wonks, and to protect human beings, not just businesses. That would be an unhypocritical winning strategy.

Note from KBJ: Just when I think the New York Times is a lost cause, a letter such as this one is published. Bravo!
