Yesterday evening, Katherine and I watched News of the World (2020), which neither of us had seen. The movie stars Tom Hanks as an itinerant news reader following the Civil War. The movie is set in Texas, but was filmed in New Mexico. The co-star is a newcomer, Helena Zengel. I don't want to give the plot away, but the movie was beautifully filmed, tense (at times riveting), and well-acted, with a gorgeous soundtrack. I love movies like this. They show ordinary people in the Old West, sometimes doing extraordinary things. The Old West was a place of great good and great evil. The comparative absence of law and order allowed bad people to profit from their misdeeds (some of them flourished), but it also brought out the best in good-hearted people. You will like this movie. Here is the trailer.
