President-Elect Joe Biden summed it up perfectly when he said, “America is back.”

As Donald Trump has continued to make a fool of himself since he legitimately lost the election, Biden has acted like a president: dignified, mature, articulate and sane. His words and deeds seek to unify rather than to divide and destroy.

The benefits of Biden’s victory are becoming more evident with each day, and most recently through his naming of talented, respected and experienced individuals to assume key positions in his administration. Gone will be what has been inflicted on us over the past four years: the nepotism, the Wall Street billionaires, lobbyists, grifters and political hacks: those who were selected because they agreed to serve the president rather than the people who elected him.

Although Biden faces massive headwinds with millions of Trump voters who believe anything their man says, including that the election was stolen from him, we can now work on restoring America’s prestige and reputation throughout the world.

Let this sink in: We have a president who has responded to his obvious defeat in an unprecedented manner by implementing a “scorched earth” exit strategy. He is intentionally sabotaging the country, its institutions and President-elect Biden.

If not checked, this will harm all Americans regardless of political party. Republicans in Congress must rise up and stop him. They know the danger of not doing so and now must develop the spine to act.

Members of the administration at all levels of government must refuse to carry out Trump’s orders. As history reminds us, this is the ethically required and patriotic action.

Finally, we must hope the president’s family and friends will intervene. Democracy is on the line.
