Here is Kurt Schlichter's latest column.

I was astounded to read the tepid endorsement of the incumbent president (Oct. 31, “The Man and the Record”). Of the many problems with the endorsement, the first is the characterization of “bending the truth.” Repeatedly spreading outrageously false information is more than bending the truth. Does the Post-Gazette still believe that the truth matters?

The editorial states that his behavior is not justified. True, but his behavior embarrasses us on the world stage and he cozies up to authoritarians. You note his divisiveness but fail to note the danger this presents to our country. He encourages his fans to rough up other citizens and praises white supremacists. He encourages prosecution of his political opponents in the style of a Third World dictator.

Regarding the pandemic, no one suggests that we “cower before the disease.” Experts recommend straightforward measures such as wearing masks, social distancing and washing hands. The president mocks these ideas and flouts the advice of his medical experts. We can fully reopen the economy when we get the pandemic under control so that we can feel comfortable going about our daily lives.

Joe Biden is no socialist and was the most centrist candidate in the race. He has extensive experience in foreign affairs and gives no indication that he is soft on China. His approach will be to assemble a coalition of like-minded nations. The current administration has accomplished little other than to impose tariffs paid by American consumers.

It is curious that a reputable news organization endorses the man who cries “fake news” whenever he hears something he doesn’t like. Worse, he declares the press to be the enemy of the people.

It would have been better if the Post-Gazette had not endorsed either candidate. The final statements that we should vote our consciences and believe in the country are inarguable, and the editorial should have left it at that.

Donald Trump's approval rating is 53%. Barack Obama's approval rating at the same point of his presidency (11 November 2012) was 53%.

Whether you liked him or not, America needed Donald Trump to be a great president. At this critical time in our history, we needed him to be a Lincoln, a Roosevelt, a JFK. He represented hope for millions of people that Washington, D.C., likes to forget.

One big thing hurt his presidency and re-election. He couldn’t get out of his own way. Too much tweeting. Too much playing to rally crowds and not enough time reaching out to the rest of America. Too many insults of opponents and those who disagree with him. He wished coronavirus away with words instead of creating a strategy to subdue the threat.

Trump faced ceaseless opposition from those who were offended by his outsider status and politics. But great leaders take on challenges and overcome them on the way to manifesting their promises. President Trump lost his presidency, but not to Democrats. He lost to himself.
