  • Chernobyl (2019)Yesterday evening, Katherine and I completed our viewing of Chernobyl (2019), a recent television miniseries that I now own on DVD. Neither of us watched the miniseries when it aired on HBO, although each of us saw parts of it. I'm glad I watched it. What a riveting story! It was heartbreaking in places and uplifting in others. The acting was superb. Ronald Reagan was right: the U.S.S.R. was an evil empire. Every college student should watch this miniseries to see what life is like in totalitarian societies. They're the opposite of romantic; they're stultifying.

    Here is the official trailer.

  • Re: May 12 letter to the editor, “Doggett owes apology for comments on Trump.”

The “Liar of the Week” award has gone to President Trump with such monotonous regularity that now Sen. Doggett is admonished to apologize for telling the truth.

So, it seems people are passing away of a deadly hoax, not a deadly pandemic. To tell you the truth, that’s a relief. Maybe there’s already a vaccine for a hoax.

Note from KBJ: Stop projecting your dishonesty onto President Trump, Karen. He hasn't told a single lie.

  • ….Hahn, Richard Goodstein, Donna Brazile, Niel Cavuto, and many others. They repeat the worst of the Democrat speaking points, and lies. All of the good is totally nullified, and more. Net Result = BAD! CNN & MSDNC are all in for the Do Nothing Democrats! Fox WAS Great!

  • To the editor:

When McManus says America is not like “South Korea or Taiwan,” I hope he is not trying to perpetuate the stereotype of Asians as blindly “obedient.”

Perhaps a better description of the small but noisy minority of Americans who consider anti-pandemic measures excessive is that they are indeed obedient—to a president who rejects the advice of scientific experts, promotes debunked conspiracy theories, intimidates those with different views, stokes xenophobic divisiveness and places himself above the law.

    Joyce Tamanaha-Ho, Davis, Calif.

Note from KBJ: Scientific experts don't make policy decisions, Joyce. They advise. President Trump listens to their advice and decides. This is why we elected him, and it's why we're going to elect him again.
