President Trump told a whopper during his April 22 press briefing: “Ultimately, we’re doing more testing, I think, than probably any of the governors even want.” At the same time many governors, regardless of party affiliation, are pleading for more tests.
A second lie blatantly disregarded the very science that will enable us to emerge from this pandemic with as few future deaths as possible. According to Trump, “not everybody believes as strongly as some people on testing,” as if epidemiological facts care.
Tests slow COVID-19 by identifying and then quarantining those who test positive; even those might not show symptoms while they are spreading the disease.
As of May 5, more than 70,000 Americans have died. How many are due to Trump’s egregiously inadequate response?

Yesterday evening, Katherine and I watched Ford v Ferrari (2019) on Movies Anywhere. We saw it as a preview several months ago (while in a theater) and made a mental note to watch it when it was released. I'm not a motorhead, by any means, but I do enjoy watching professional motor racing, so I found it interesting.I heard about the 24 Hours of Le Mans growing up and knew that it was a major race in Europe. I didn't know that the drivers alternated during the 24 hours. The movie stars Christian Bale and Matt Damon. Bale has a wide dramatic range, but Damon is whitebread and boring, with little range. The plot is easy to grasp; the dialogue is engaging; the racing scenes are spectacular. All in all, not a bad way to spend a pandemic evening.
Here is the trailer.

To the editor:
What President Trump did after the Justice Department dropped charges against former National Security Advisor Michael Flynn was utterly unbelievable. He said he called Russian President Vladimir Putin to celebrate the reversal of the conviction and talk about “the Russia hoax, this absolute dishonest hoax.”
The U.S. intelligence apparatus has conclusively determined that Russia interfered in the 2016 presidential election campaign. It believes Russia continues with such meddling. However, our own president would rather believe Putin’s lies.
Trump’s actions and his words say the same thing: He has no faith in the American political system with the three co-equal branches of government and the balance of power. He wants to be a despot, like Putin. He does not deserve one single vote.
Michael Kranther, Los Angeles
Note from KBJ: That Russia "interfered" or "meddled" in the election doesn't mean that Donald Trump or any of his associates did anything wrong. Why can't you grasp that simple distinction, Michael? Are you stupid?
