To the editor:
After the 2016 election, it was obvious that Trump received more media coverage than Hillary Clinton mainly because of his obnoxious rhetoric and untrue statements.
Now it is happening again. He is using his daily briefings as a political rally. It is true that reporters are able to ask questions, but Trump manages to sell his actions or attack reporters or others who do not praise him.
Every day, every newspaper and all TV stations report on Trump. The coverage makes clear that what the president is doing is not helping with the pandemic, but because most people do not read the articles, it looks as though he is doing what is needed. This is free advertising for him and his reelection.
I tune out the daily White House briefings until I see a doctor or scientist come on. I hope that the press will not continue to give him this bully pulpit and, instead, cover those who are actually on the ground fighting this virus and the officials who encouraging the public to act responsibly.

I presume I was not the only citizen outraged when I received in Tuesday’s mail a postcard, purportedly from the CDC, titled “President Trump’s Coronavirus Guidelines For America.” This postcard credits Trump as a driving force in leading Americans in protecting us from the COVID-19 virus pandemic. This is blatant political propaganda, more out of the playbook of other “fearless leaders” such as Kim Jong Un, Vladimir Putin and Xi Jinping. Trump is certainly no George Washington or Abraham Lincoln.
Not only is the mailing a likely violation of the Hatch Act and federal campaign finance laws, it is a gross misrepresentation of Trump’s role in dealing with the pandemic. Consider that the person (Trump) credited with the “guidelines” is the same person who: Just weeks ago claimed Democrats were politicizing the coming pandemic as “their new hoax;” tried to shake hands with his lackeys at the close of one of his daily press conferences (campaign rallies) about the virus; daily lies and distorts the facts and science about the virus; and irresponsibly contradicts his own experts and the universally accepted facts and science about the pandemic (and his own “guidelines”) by pushing to reopen the U.S. for business by Easter.
I wonder how much the production and mailing of this postcard cost U.S. taxpayers. How many ventilators for patients and protective gear for medical providers could have been purchased instead? Disgusting!
