I was profoundly disappointed and disturbed to read President Donald Trump’s denial of the perils of climate change and his administration’s unwillingness to support measures that serve to prevent or minimize the inevitable environmental disaster if we don’t (Oct. 24, “Trump Decries Climate Accord in Pittsburgh”).
It seems the president is more interested in securing the economic benefits of the fossil fuel industry than he is in ensuring the long-term vitality of the planet, not only for American citizens, but also for all the nations and people on Earth.
And how can the members of the GOP, who support him so single-mindedly, be indifferent to the implications of his self-appointed style of leadership? Why do they continually fall into line for what seems to be purely political reasons?
It may be that our salvation may only come if truth and the common good motivate our nation’s leadership. Heaven help the future for our children and generations to come if that doesn’t happen.

Note from KBJ: We love President Trump, William. We're going to vote for him again! By the way, climatism is a religion. I can see why you're attracted to it.

Donald Trump's approval rating is 46%. Barack Obama's approval rating at the same point of his presidency (29 October 2011) was 46%.

Nervous Nancy Pelosi is doing everything possible to destroy the Republican Party. Our Polls show that it is going to be just the opposite. The Do Nothing Dems will lose many seats in 2020. They have a Death Wish, led by a corrupt politician, Adam Schiff!

Re “A misstep or a calamity for credibility—an assessment of Trump’s Syria pullback” by Zoe Greenberg (Page A1, Oct. 21): This was no random, impulsive act by an ill-informed president, as some would suggest. The president made the same move in December and was stopped only by the resignation of Defense Secretary Jim Mattis and public outrage. So he waited, and did it again 10 months later under cover of darkness.
It was calculated and disastrous. Who benefits the most from this betrayal of our country’s pledge to protect our allies and our national security?
As Nancy Pelosi said, “All roads . . . lead to Putin.” Vladimir Putin becomes the power broker as we leave the region with a leadership vacuum and we leave our Kurdish allies to strike a deal wherever they can find one in order to survive.
I hope that someday we identify the smoking gun that links our president to Putin. I’d be looking in his tax returns, since that is his most closely guarded secret.
