Katherine and I went to a concert in Allen, Texas, yesterday evening. When we bought the tickets, we thought (or rather, assumed) that Peter Frampton would be the main act and Steve Miller Band the opening act. Nope. To our chagrin, we got there halfway through Frampton's eight-song set. To make things worse, we left about halfway through Steve Miller's long set—before he played his biggest hits. Not a good night. If I may complain about one more thing, why must the volume in concerts be so high? It was actually painful. I could feel the sound bouncing off my chest.

  • To the editor:

Having lived with satisfaction under every president from Franklin D. Roosevelt to Barack Obama, I have been eagerly waiting for a prominent Republican to state the truth about President Trump’s unacceptable performance.

I applaud former New Jersey Gov. Christine Todd Whitman for publicly setting forth numerous facts that make clear the president is violating his oath to “preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States.” Hopefully, her courageous public stand will motivate many other eminent Republicans to put the future of American constitutional government ahead of any partisan loyalty to an unfit president.

  • Democrats, who want Open Borders and care little about Crime, are incompetent, but they have the Fake News Media almost totally on their side!

  • Here is an essay about academia. The author writes: "students in my political philosophy class refuse to study the works of John Stuart Mill or John Locke (or any other white thinker) because they consider them white supremacists." What does this mean? If the students "refuse to study" these writers, do they fail the course? Or is the author saying that they won't take the course? The solution is to say, on the first day of class, "If you have any problem reading the works I have assigned, then you should drop the course immediately." In other words, take the course only if you are willing to learn from the authors and me.
