I read Victor Davis Hanson’s recent opinion piece, “Trump is slashing knots that bound Obama, Bush and Clinton,” and I was surprised that he made no mention of Russia. Yes, you can’t cover everything. However, if you are going to write an opinion piece praising President Donald Trump for being so tough, standing against other countries, shouldn’t you at least mention Russia? I mean, not only has Trump not stood tough against Russia, he does not even criticize Russia or its President Vladimir Putin in public, even though he has regularly condemned and insulted our allies. The only time Trump mentions Putin is to sing his praises.
Hanson should have condemned Trump for not speaking out against Russia, or he should have explained why it is a good thing for Trump to condemn and insult our allies at the same time that he follows a policy of almost appeasement concerning Russia.
Yes, I know, in recent weeks we have taken some measures against Russia for its 2016 presidential election meddling, its poisoning of a former spy and his daughter in England, etc., but that was in spite of Trump, certainly not because of him. Trump has ignored Congress when it has tried to take action against Russia. For a long time, he refused to even acknowledge that Russia interfered in our 2016 elections, and he still implies that it may have been someone other than Russia.
I can only speculate as to why Trump never criticizes Russia or Putin in public. Maybe he hopes to do business in Russia now and in the future. Maybe Putin has some dirt on him. Maybe Trump hopes to make the United States a satellite of Russia. Who knows?
I do know that if Hanson is going to argue that Trump is such a tough guy, he should realize something: If Trump were really tough, Trump would be tough enough to publicly criticize his boss, Vladimir Putin.

When a car is sent to the United States from China, there is a Tariff to be paid of 2 1/2%. When a car is sent to China from the United States, there is a Tariff to be paid of 25%. Does that sound like free or fair trade. No, it sounds like STUPID TRADE – going on for years!

Here are highlights from today's Paris-Roubaix, a.k.a. Hell of the North. I got out of bed at 3:30 to watch the race live (for six hours) on my computer, via NBC Sports Gold (for which I pay a small annual fee). I won't spoil the fun for you if you don't know who won. Let's just say that I'm delighted with the result. (Unfortunately, a rider died of cardiac arrest during the race.)
Addendum: The winner averaged 27.06 miles per hour over the 159.6-mile course.

To the editor:
Too often the masses and their information are quietly targeted and controlled by a strongman who has control of the source of their news. We've seen this occur in countries like Russia, Germany and China.
We are now witnessing the beginning of something like this in the United States. ("Backlash grows over Sinclair Broadcast Group's 'must-run' conservative content on local TV stations," April 5)
We have a president who favors one news outlet owner, the Sinclair Broadcast Group, and condemns any organization that does not support his damaging policies. President Trump has tweeted, "Sinclair is far superior to CNN and even more fake NBC, which is a total joke."
Trump does not own Sinclair, but its owner supports the president and seeks to make his employees mouthpieces for him and the administration even though many are journalists who do not share their beliefs.
The divisiveness created by the disinformation being spewed by Sinclair and Fox News will only lead to a greater ideological schism between Trump supporters and those who understand quality journalism and the need for it in a democracy.

If President Obama had crossed his stated Red Line In The Sand, the Syrian disaster would have ended long ago! Animal Assad would have been history!
