President Donald Trump attended a parade celebrating Bastille Day, and now he wants to spend millions on a military parade. Does he understand the events and outcome of the event it celebrates?
France was in deep economic and political crisis, on the verge of bankruptcy due to multiple wars—including their support of the American Revolution. Peasants were unhappy with food shortages and high taxes and the nobility resented new taxes from which they had previously been exempt; paralysis of the government resulted.
As Alexis de Tocqueville wrote, though sponsored by the “most civilized classes of the nation,” the revolt was “carried out by its least educated and most unruly elements. Good intentions and savage acts of violence resulted in a belief that people could change history, but at the cost of a generation of upheaval and millions of deaths. [sic]
Today in the United States, the 1 percent is seeing a tax reduction and isn’t on board yet.

Today's ride may be my coldest ever. The wind chill when I left the house was 22º, and it was only 23º when I returned, three hours later. The wind was brutal. But I got the 40.3 miles in, with music playing the entire way. I saw only one other cyclist. Usually, on Saturday, the trail is crowded with cyclists. I've ridden 789.7 miles so far this year.Roto Ergo Sum

Republicans want to fix DACA far more than the Democrats do. The Dems had all three branches of government back in 2008-2011, and they decided not to do anything about DACA. They only want to use it as a campaign issue. Vote Republican!

To the editor:
The United States has been at war now for 17 years. These wars have been fought by about 1% of the population. The rest of us have gone about our business without any sacrifice or thought about the fighting.
During the Vietnam War, Trump got five deferments, including one for bone spurs in his foot. Now he says he wants a parade to honor the men and women serving in our military.
What he should do is take a walk around Arlington National Cemetery or go to the Vietnam Veterans Memorial. He should read the names and meditate on the sacrifice made by Americans whose lives were cut short while he was safe at home.
Would the military parade, which could cost millions of taxpayer's dollars, be held to honor the troops or for the vanity of our president? The American people don't want a big parade to show our might—the American people want peace.

Note from KBJ: The sheer pettiness of the Left is mind-boggling. Nothing Donald Trump could possibly do would merit their approval.
