Mark my words. Barack Obama's decision to close the detention center in Guantánamo Bay will make him a one-term president. What is the purpose of this madness, other than to pander to the moonbats? Think of all the horrors that could ensue, and likely will ensue, by bringing detainees into this country. First, they could be acquitted and released, which would allow them to commit terrorist acts against American citizens. Remember: These people want to die. The more Americans they take with them, the better (as far as they're concerned). Second, there could be riots in the prisons that take in detainees. (American prisoners will not take kindly to having terrorists in their midst, any more than they take kindly to having child molesters/murderers such as Jeffrey Dahmer in their midst.) Third, there could be terrorist attacks on the prisons themselves, by American sympathizers of the detainees. Perhaps if Barack Obama and his family had to live near one of these detainees, he wouldn't be so eager to bring them into this country. He is making Americans less safe—the very people he is solemnly sworn to protect. How is that compatible with his duties as president?

Addendum: Here are two paragraphs from the New York Times story:

Representative Peter Hoekstra of Michigan, the senior Republican on the House Intelligence Committee, said, “As people start getting an indication that [detainees are] going to Kansas, that they’re going to California, that they’re going to Illinois or to Michigan, people are going to say, ‘No, why would we want them here and put them in a general prison population and make our hometowns a target for terrorists?’”

Despite speculation about the possibility of moving large numbers of detainees to a single military jail, like those in Leavenworth, Kan., or Charleston, S.C., government officials and legal experts say it is more likely that inmates would be sent to civilian or military facilities across the country. That would reduce the burden on any single location and make each site less of a potential terrorist target.

Have you ever seen such atrocious logic? Scattering detainees around the country wouldn't "make each site less of a potential terrorist target," as the reporters say. It would create more targets!
