To the Editor:
Re “Will Obama Save Liberalism?” (column, Jan. 26):
It seems that William Kristol, in his final column for The New York Times, saved his largest bombshell for last. He states that over the recent past “conservatives have been right more often than not—and more often than liberals—about most of the important issues of the day” and “conservatives of the Reagan-Bush-Gingrich-Bush years have a fair amount to be proud of.”
Say what?! From where I stand, I see devastation everywhere: wars around the world, global financial collapse, lost jobs, lost homes, lost health care coverage, lost retirement savings, environmental degradation . . . the list goes on and on.
No one has been left undamaged. If this is conservative success, I’d hate to see what failure looks like.

Note from KBJ: The letter writer assumes that things would be better had progressives been in power. "They couldn't be worse!" the letter writer might say. Yes, they could. The letter writer could be dead, a victim of a terrorist attack.
