To the Editor:

Re “They Sure Showed That Obama,” by Frank Rich (column, Feb. 15):

According to Mr. Rich, if Republicans “want to obstruct and filibuster while the economy is in free fall, the president should call their bluff and let them go at it.”

Even more problematic is that nobody is wondering out loud [sic] how these naysaying Republicans would answer this: Now that the stimulus bill has passed, do you want it to be successful so that the American people can have economic security and stability again, or are you so anxious to prove the point that you are right that you would be happy for the stimulus bill to fail?

Unfortunately, my sense is that Republicans would rather be right and have the country go down the tubes than be wrong and lose political points. Reminds me of George W. Bush . . . he couldn’t even think of anything he had done wrong! The Republicans just want to match that record.

Note from KBJ: Putting party over country; sounds like the Democrats and Iraq! I wonder whether the letter writer wrote a letter about that. What do you think?
