American cyclist Levi Leipheimer, a native of Montana, won his third consecutive Tour of California today. See here for the story. Today's final stage into Escondido (near San Diego) was exciting, but in the end, Leipheimer's team (Astana) kept the breakaway from gaining too much time. Lance Armstrong, who finished seventh overall, did yeoman's work for Leipheimer, who was grateful. Leipheimer said that he hopes to repay the favor. That's interesting, because I don't think Leipheimer plans to participate in the Giro d'Italia. Is he hinting that Armstrong will be racing to win in the Tour de France? As things now stand, Armstrong is going to try to win the Giro and his teammate Alberto Contador is going to try to win the Tour. It'll be interesting to see how things shake out. I'll be disappointed if Armstrong plays a supporting role in the Tour de France.
