Want to hear a crazy story? Nearly six months ago, as some of you may recall, I had an accident while riding my bike. See here for the story. I stubbornly refused to see a doctor. Luckily, no bone was broken. I had black-and-blue skin on my entire left side for several weeks. My ribs ached. I had a hematoma on my left hip. I couldn't move my left arm for a long time. (The worst part, besides sleeping, was putting on and taking off a shirt.) Eventually, the discoloration and pain went away and the shoulder returned to normal. Almost. Something is wrong inside my shoulder. It doesn't bother me (honestly), so I'm not concerned about it. Today, however, it began to hurt. I must have done something to it, although I don't know what.

My main concern wasn't the pain (although obviously that matters to me) but the possibility that it could interfere with my running or cycling. I had a 4.3-mile run scheduled for this afternoon, so, at the appointed hour, I was out the door, with fingers crossed. The shoulder ached for the first mile or so, but then, as if by magic, the pain went away. The repetitive movement of my arms must have popped something back into place. By the time I finished running, the arm pain was gone. It's still gone, seven hours later. Have you ever heard of such a crazy thing? Who knew that running had therapeutic value?
