I recently subscribed to Policy Review, which is published by the Hoover Institution. I've tried various conservative periodicals over the years, but ended up allowing my subscriptions to lapse. The Salisbury Review was too British for my tastes. Many of its essays were about parochial British matters in which I have little or no interest. First Things was fine, but the publication screwed me by not delivering all the issues for which I paid. The New Criterion has good essays in each issue, but there was far too much art stuff for my tastes. I don't care at all about art. So far, I like Policy Review. Today I read this essay by Mary Eberstadt, which draws an interesting comparison between tobacco and pornography. Tell me what you think.
