4-15-89 . . . The big, bad Texas Longhorns came to town today, and, as many local people feared, they defeated the Aggies, 6-2. The rivalry is old and intense—so much so that Olsen Field was sold out. In fact, students began parking cars and trucks outside the rightfield fence this morning. I saw them on my way to school on the shuttle bus. Alas, Texas’s pitcher, Kirk Dressendorfer, shut the Aggies down, lowering A & M’s record to 40-2 for the year. Imagine: only two losses through forty-two games! The teams play a doubleheader tomorrow. Pride and a Southwest Conference title are at stake.
