Many of you are old enough to remember the impeachment of Bill Clinton. I remember it vividly, as though it were yesterday. I even read a book about it and lectured on it in a recent Philosophy of Law course. The organization known as MoveOn.org was founded by people who wanted to "move on" to other matters. I believe that the impeachment changed American politics, perhaps forever. It unleashed a torrent of abuse of conservatives and a desire to punish them for humiliating a popular Democrat president. Read this. How many of you believe that the editorial board of the New York Times is interested (as it says it is) in preventing further "abuses" by the executive branch of government? How many of you believe, to the contrary, that this is a pretext for retaliating against those who supported Bill Clinton's impeachment? In the eyes of progressives, it's payback time.
