Candidate Barack Obama was against military commissions. President Obama is for them. One wonders what changed. Does he have access to new information? If so, what? Have his values changed? If so, why? A cynic would say that he has done a political calculation and concluded that it's in his interest to reverse himself. (Americans don't like weak presidents; see Jimmy Carter.) The Bush haters, both in and out of academia, will not be happy. They hate all things Bush, and the military commissions are pure Bush. Gee, maybe he wasn't such a bad president, after all, though I don't expect the moonbats (especially those in the legal academy) to see it that way.
