For the love of God, why can't Major League baseball players execute a rundown? It's simple. When a player is caught out, get the ball to the fielder at the forward base, say, home plate. That fielder runs the player back, perhaps faking a throw or two along the way. When the player dives back to third base (in my example), throw the ball for an easy tag. The worst thing that can happen if you execute in this way is that the player ends up at the previous base. There should never be more than two throws on a rundown play: one to get the ball to the fielder at the forward base, and a second to get the diving runner at the previous base. It infuriates me that something so simple and so easy can be botched by the best players in the world.
