Lance Armstrong crashed today, but he appears to be fine. I've been watching the Giro d'Italia on tape delay every day since the Giro started on 9 May, so I saw the accident. The peloton was traveling at a high rate of speed along the coastline of Italy. Lance, who was uncharacteristically not riding at the front, touched the wheel of the rider in front of him and went down hard. Luckily, he landed on his back rather than his shoulder. He slid into the concrete barrier and got to his feet quickly. A teammate waited for him and paced him back to the peloton. I hope Lance learns from this. In his seven Tour de France victories, he always rode at the front. This decreases the chance of being taken down by a crash. Today's accident could have happened anywhere, since it involved the touch of a wheel; but in general, Lance should be at the front.
