I'd like to thank everyone who commented on progressive lenses. The feedback is useful to me. Almost everyone who commented is happy with progressive lenses, as I'm sure I will be. But everyone cautions me that there is a period of time in which the lenses are disorienting. I'm an impatient person, but I'll have to get used to the lenses. My plan is to have two pairs of glasses made. One will have progressive lenses and not be tinted. I will wear these indoors, where I read, work at the computer, and watch television. The second will have regular lenses set for distance viewing and will be tinted. I will wear these outdoors, where I won't be doing any reading or computer work. By the way, I have never worn bifocals. I believe some people need them as early as the age of 40. I'm 52. If you have bifocals, when did you begin to need them?
