Here is a video recap of today's stage of the Tour de France, which was won by Spanish cyclist Luis Leon Sanchez. Once again, a breakaway succeeded, but there was no change at the top of the general classification, or G.C. I should explain what this means. There are, in addition to the race for the overall title, several "special" classifications. There is a competition for the green sprinter's jersey. There is a competition for the polka-dot climber's jersey. There is a competition for the white young-rider's jersey. There is a competition for the best-team jersey. Several special classifications; one general classification. Get it? Here is how the term is used: "Lance Armstrong is currently lying third in [or on] G.C." Tomorrow's stage has two difficult climbs, but since they come in the middle of the stage, there will be time for stragglers to catch up on the run-in to the finish. I don't expect any change at the top of the G.C. Mountaintop finishes are where good climbers such as Lance Armstrong can take time out of their rivals. There are two mountaintop finishes remaining in this year's Tour: on 19 and 25 July. I expect fireworks. Here is a profile of tomorrow's stage.
