The headline on this New York Times story is misleading in the extreme: "Celebrating a Death." People weren't celebrating a death; they were celebrating a just punishment. Punishment of the guilty is not a necessary evil, as utilitarians think; it is a positive good. What's wrong with celebrating good things?
