This man comes perilously close to equating science and rationality. It would be funny if it weren't so frightening. Scientists are as prone to bias, ignorance, prejudice, fraud, and superstition as anyone else. They have proved themselves to be capable of putting politics ahead of science, of putting financial self-interest ahead of science, and of putting the desire for power ahead of science. Scientists have given us eugenics, genocide, weapons of mass destruction, and Tuskegee. Scientists are often simply confused, as anyone who reads philosophy of science knows. If we allow scientists to have more power than they deserve, we have nobody to blame but ourselves.
