To the Editor:

Your July 3 editorial “Unfinished Business: ‘Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell’” is an important reminder that “don’t ask, don’t tell” remains the law of our country until the Pentagon certifies its repeal, and that openly gay and lesbian individuals still cannot enlist or serve in our armed forces.

Litigation over “don’t ask, don’t tell” continues. While the government has been quietly settling individual cases, the Log Cabin Republicans continue to litigate their case against the government over “don’t ask, don’t tell.”

Log Cabin has a pending motion to lift an injunction issued by the Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit so that all Americans, regardless of their orientation, may be allowed to serve our country.

Note from KBJ: Homosexuals have always been able to serve in the United States military. What they have not been able to do, and should not be able to do, is get in people's faces about their sexuality. Do your job and shut your mouth!
