The official high temperature at DFW Airport yesterday was 103º Fahrenheit. That gives us 30 consecutive days of 100º or higher temperatures and an average high temperature for July of 101.7º. The hottest days were 106, 105, 105, 104, and 104. I ran on the 106º day; I walked 4.3 miles on both 105º days; and I ran on one of the 104º days.

This is not the hottest July I've experienced in DFW. The average high temperature in 1998—long before anyone was talking about global warming—was 102.3º. In case you're wondering whether I take this month's heat as evidence of global warming, I do not. The hottest year on record in DFW was 1980. Were we experiencing global warming 31 years ago? When the average high temperature for July was 92.0º in 2007, were we experiencing global cooling? Only an idiot or an ideologue thinks that these weather variations signify anything about climate.
