Katherine and I went to the Ballpark in Arlington yesterday evening to watch the Texas Rangers play the Oakland Athletics. The Rangers were 0-3 at the start of the game, having been swept (at home) by the Cleveland Indians, who lost the World Series in 2016 to Katherine's Chicago Cubs. (I'm a Michigan boy; she's an Illinois girl.) Ordinarily, we sit in the third deck, from which we have a panoramic view of the entire ballpark, but Katherine treated me to lower-level seats for my 60th birthday. We were behind home plate, seven rows from the field.
In the first inning, I was playing with the zoom lens on my iPhone 7 as Roughned Odor walked to the plate. I took a picture of him standing in the on-deck circle and another of him awaiting a pitch at the plate. I decided to get some action in my third picture. I snapped it just as the ball arrived at home plate. Crack! I looked up to see the ball disappear into the right-field stands. The image in this post (click to enlarge) shows the home run. The Rangers took an early 8-0 lead and held on to win, 10-5. Nomar Mazara drove in six of the 10 Rangers runs. He is going to be a superstar.
It was a delightful evening, with a near-full moon overhead and a perfect temperature.
