Trek Domane 5.2When I left my house this morning to ride my bike 35.2 miles, the heat index was 92º Fahrenheit. When I returned, three hours later, it was 103º. The wind was brutal (16-17 miles per hour), but I held up well and had fun. I listened to Rush Limbaugh for two hours and then switched to music. I've now pedaled 2,140.7 miles in 2017. My goal is 5,500.

Today is a significant day for me. I began riding a bike in earnest on 26 May 1985, in Tucson, so today marks my 32d year of serious riding. During that time, I've pedaled 90,012.3 miles. That's an average of 7.70 miles per day (counting eight leap days) for 32 years, or 53.90 miles per week. My resting heart rate is in the mid-40s. Do you wonder why? I'm like a shark: if I stop moving, I die.
