Katherine and I went to Lone Star Park yesterday afternoon to watch thoroughbred racing. The park, which is only a few miles from my house in Fort Worth, is celebrating its 20th anniversary. I remember when it was built, and always wanted to go there, but never have—until yesterday. (Better late than never.) I got off to a good start in my wagering by winning both of my wagers in the first race. I wagered $20 and won $29. Katherine must have thought I was a genius. Alas, I won only two more times until the ninth and final race, in which I won $48 on $32 worth of wagers. All told, I wagered $201 and won $95.20, for a net loss of $105.80. I consider it money well spent, especially since parking was free and admission was only nine dollars per person. We had a great time. We ate and drank; the weather was gorgeous; the horses were strong and beautiful; and we had a perfect view of a magnificent sunset. I hope to go back later in the summer. Anyone have any wagering tips for me?
