Yesterday evening, Katherine and I watched Dawn of the Planet of the Apes (2014), which I recently acquired on DVD. This is the second of three Apes movies in the latest incarnation, the first being Rise of the Planet of the Apes (2011) and the third being War for the Planet of the Apes (2017). The third of these is about to be released. (We will see it at a theater soon.) Katherine is a good sport to watch these movies with me. I watched the original Apes movies many years ago and enjoyed them. The Mark Wahlberg remake in 2001 was not good, though I purchased it anyway. While watching the movie yesterday, I couldn't help but draw comparisons to the encounters between Europeans and Native Americans. Native Americans got horses and weapons from whites, as did the apes in the movie. One difference is that the humans didn't give apes alcohol. Maybe that'll occur in the third movie.
