In response to Richard S. Kostkas’s Aug. 10 letter, “Trump Encounters Too Much Resistance”: I am amazed how the supporters of Donald Trump conveniently forget how they treated President Barack Obama. In fact, based on how Mr. Kostkas feels Mr. Trump is being treated, one could just substitute Obama for Trump in his letter and get a very clear picture of how the Trump supporters responded to President Obama.
His last sentence is very telling: “And it will be more difficult for his successor, with a new standard for what is accepted in mainstream media and public comment, on what you can say and how you can attack a standing president.” Really? Isn’t it Mr. Trump who changed how we respond in America? The list of offending comments and unacceptable reactions from Mr. Trump is too long to list here. The new standard is a direct result of this administration.
No former president, Democrat or Republican, has ever behaved like this president. The disrespect to the people of the United States comes directly from this White House, and it is shameful.
