To the editor:
Congress just gave President Donald Trump and the wealthy of our nation a Christmas present, while putting a chunk of coal in the average American’s holiday stocking. Instead of handling tax reform with kid gloves and truly reviewing it, Republican members of Congress emulated the Democrats when they pushed through Obamacare.
Polls and news stories indicate that a majority of American citizens, large corporations, and major representatives from the medical field are against the tax bill in its current form. Republican lawmakers even dismissed analyses by the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office and other economists that the large tax cuts in the bill will increase our nation’s debt and bring economic instability.
Congress blithely marched ahead, firmly resolved to give Trump and the Republicans a win. Someone remind them that they are not playing a game. With the serious impact of tax reform on everyone, and just the size of the tax bill, who knows what American taxpayers will be hit with? Take the time to consider your constituents who are wondering why they voted for you.
