Regarding “Reason as Racism: An Immigration Debate Gets Derailed” (Jan. 15): This is the most disappointing of editorials I have read from your board—not because of a political difference but because of your lack of moral clarity.

Calling Donald Trump a racist is not name calling; it’s merely stating the obvious. Consider his renting tactics from the 1970s, defending white supremacists in Charlottesville, lack of commitment to Puerto Rico, calling Mexicans rapists, and Muslim bans. It is one thing for people at work or people at the corner bar to speak this way. It is quite another for our president and supposedly the moral center of the entire world to do so. His words are a reflection on all of us.

And if you think we should stop calling each other names, consider: crooked Hillary, lying Ted, Pocahontas, low-energy Jeb, etc. Your position needs some self-reflecting.
