I confess to being more than a little confused by President Donald Trump’s comment, “You’ve been through a lot. More than most people could endure,” in reference to newly released American Joshua Holt from a Venezuelan jail.
While taking nothing from Holt’s experience, I am appalled by Trump’s callous attitude and cavalier remarks that have been a steady drumbeat, over the last several years, when commenting on Sen. John McCain’s 5 ½ years as a prisoner of war, and brutal torture, in Hanoi.
We are firmly in Orwellian lands, with doublethink and Newspeak the new normal. Next stop, the Twilight Zone.
