President Donald Trump’s tweet threatening to tax Harley-Davidson for moving some production overseas ignores the fact that Harley-Davidson will continue to manufacture motorcycles in the United States.

This is the latest evidence that Trump is not a businessman in the true sense of the word. He inherited millions of dollars and was a real estate developer who on occasion saw some of his investments go sour.

When it comes to economics, he probably does not know the difference between micro and macro. He certainly does not seem to understand the chaos that could soon confront soybean farmers, whiskey distillers, cheesemakers, orange growers and many other producers that will need relief from the escalating threats of a trade war.

Steeped in real estate, Trump may know very little about international trade and finance. Seeking guidance from him is like going to an orthodontist when you need to see a heart surgeon.
