Regarding the letter from David Navadeh (July 12, “Why We Back Trump”) about evangelical Christians’ support for Donald Trump: Do evangelicals actually think Mr. Trump gives a fig for their beliefs? He’s got them in the palm of his hand, and all this prevaricating panderer needs to do is to tweet some inflammatory gibberish to ensure their votes and inflate the ranks at one of his ego-boosting, self-aggrandizing rallies.

Outlaw abortion? How hard do you think it would be for a “billionaire” like Mr. Trump to facilitate an abortion, even if it were illegal? Remember, he—and possibly his latest Supreme Court nominee—believes, as president, he is above the law. Remember Nixon’s “When the president does it, that means that it is not illegal”?

Mr. Trump on the sanctity of marriage? Oh, sure! Come to think of it, when was the last time he attended a church service?

Do evangelicals really wish to impose a Christianized version of Sharia law on believers and nonbelievers alike, the Constitution be damned? Remember Sharia law, the Islamic code of conduct and punishment that the supposedly Kenyan, Muslim, socialist, communist Barack Hussein Obama craved desperately to enforce upon the our [sic] “Christian” nation? Heaven forbid! Mr. Trump is the anti-Obama, so we’ll just turn a blind eye to his transgressions. Oh, boy!

The Constitution guarantees freedom of religion and freedom from religion. Whoever you are, practice whatever you believe in the privacy and sanctity of your church, home and heart. And do unto others as you would have them do unto you.
