With all due respect to Roger Scruton, he is clueless about Donald Trump. On trade, for example, Trump doesn't prefer tariffs; he wants there to be no tariffs at all, by or on anyone. The one thing he doesn't want is for other countries to put tariffs on our exports when we don't put tariffs on other countries' exports. Fair is fair. If other countries feel the pain, then perhaps they will eliminate their tariffs, at which time we will eliminate ours as well. Scruton would do well to read Thomas Hobbes's Leviathan (1651). Trump is no fool and will not allow the United States or its people to play the fool.
