President Donald Trump continues to lambaste Attorney General Jeff Sessions, claiming, “I don’t have an attorney general.” But the president can fire Mr. Sessions, so why does Mr. Trump persist in cursing the darkness?

Further embracing darkness, Mr. Trump claims the FBI won’t investigate professor Christine Blasey Ford’s allegations against Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh. But the president need only ask the FBI to do so! The FBI exists to conduct background checks like this, so why does he not make that request?

Preserving the prevailing darkness discloses who’s more credible here, and it certainly is not Mr. Trump. He’s in control of both of these situations, yet hides behind a shadowy status quo as if nothing is able to be changed—despite his own power to turn on the lights!

The president scorns Mr. Sessions for properly recusing himself from investigating Russian interference in our 2016 election, yet Mr. Trump incessantly calls that “a witch hunt.” Isn’t it strange to pillory Mr. Sessions for not participating in such a hunt—if that’s all it is?

And isn’t it interesting for Ms. Blasey Ford to be the one who’s requesting an FBI investigation?

Those who favor the dark, logic tells us, prefer to keep things hidden.
