I am appalled that President Donald Trump did not show up to commemorate those who gave their lives at Belleau Wood. His chief of staff, retired Gen. John Kelly, a seasoned Marine and no stranger to inclement weather, was there. Trump could have put on his Make America Great Again baseball cap in case the umbrellas failed to protect him.

I wonder how this will play out in the red states in the Midwest where most of Trump’s votes come from and where many parents have sons and daughters now in the service.

Next year will mark the 75th anniversary of the D-Day Normandy landings, another trip to France. Who will Trump send to take his place?

Note from KBJ: Trump will do just fine in the red states, Bill. Go back to your shuffleboard game.
