A few days ago, Katherine and I watched Mad Max (1979) on DVD. I watched this movie (or at least a large part of it) many years ago on cable television. The first thing that jumped out at me was how young Mel Gibson looked. As for the movie itself, I enjoyed the futuristic (dystopian) landscapes and the weird characters. The plot was simple (bordering on simplistic): good-guy cop loses partner, wife, and child to miscreants; quits his job; hunts down the perpetrators. The perps are portrayed as sadistic, which makes it all the more satisfying when they get their comeuppance. We plan to watch the other four Mad Max films soon (the fourth of which does not star Gibson). I own the second film on DVD and need to acquire the third and fourth.
