Donald Trump needs to set reasonable goals and make sensible proposals. He needs to be a leader. He can’t lead, however, when he is totally lost himself.
Mr. Trump has no vision, no plan. He just tweets absurdities. The only real purpose of a border wall is to feed Mr. Trump’s ego. That ego is insatiable, and catering to it accomplishes nothing, as his many fired minions have learned.
If Mitch McConnell would allow the Senate to vote on the appropriation bills that have been passed by the House, it is possible that enough senators would have the guts to vote to approve the bills to fund the government (without specifically funding Mr. Trump’s wall) and would even vote to override a presidential veto.
It is also possible that Mr. Trump would sign the bills into law rather than (again) be blamed for the government shutdown. Mr. McConnell, however, refuses to act. We need demonstrations across the country calling for Mr. McConnell and Mr. Trump to be removed from office due to failure to faithfully perform the duties of their offices. We need to let these individuals know that we are aware of their incompetence and will not tolerate it.
