Regarding “Battered Bay Area prepares for floods” (Page 1, Feb. 27): Only a few months ago, Bay Area residents were struggling to cope with raging wildfires that caused significant property damage, dozens of fatalities, and a sea of people wearing face masks due to hazardous air quality. Years of drought were taking a severe toll on California. Now comes a front page headline, which describes a wet and unrelenting storm causing power outages, flooding, and evacuations along the Russian River. These dramatic events are surely consequences of climate change. Those who believe the president’s contention that global warming is a hoax need to open their eyes and see what’s going on around us. Next year, we need to elect a new chief executive who believes that taking action to address climate change is a top priority.
