My question for House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and the others who are not in favor of impeaching President Trump is, when is enough enough? First, it was too early. Then, it was too late. Then it was, let’s wait to see Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s report.
Well, we’ve seen the report, and there are at least 10 episodes of obstruction of justice. The president repeatedly tried to derail the investigation, and he instructed his aides to lie. Earlier, he was a co-conspirator with Michael Cohen. Now, he is refusing to honor subpoenas and ordering aides not to testify. This isn’t a matter of politics or pragmatism. This is about principle, integrity, honor and what type of behavior is acceptable for the leader of the free world.
If this behavior goes unchallenged, it will set a dangerous precedent. Unlike former President Bill Clinton’s impeachment, based on improper behavior with an intern, it will not backfire, because only Trump’s base will consider him a martyr. Republicans have a multitude of faults, but they can be tough and they can stay on message. Democrats all too often fight among themselves and play softball, when hardball is warranted. It’s time to play hardball.
