I’m still waiting for the media (including The Chronicle) to specifically indict President Trump as the primary cause of all these mass shootings. His demagogic rants against all “others.” His overt endorsement of white nationalism, his racist rants, all provide incentive for unstable haters to grab their guns and go looking for targets.
Of course, his pathological narcissism prevents him from even realizing that his actions are reprehensible. He lives in a self-created bubble (which is one of the prime elements of his mental illness). What saddens me most, as a 12th-generation American, is the abject failure of our political system to remove him from the White House (yesterday!) and put him in prison, where he belongs.
Worst, from my point of view is his success in evoking the worst elements of our society, to cheer him on. So, in the end, this whole debacle is as much an indictment of our society as of him. Is anybody in charge in this lunatic asylum?
